The Classical Greek Theatre Festival presents a new version of Euripides' The Bacchae adapted and directed by Jack Cobabe. In Euripides' play, Dionysus returns to his birth city of Thebes and finds that the people do not worship him, believing him to be a scandal rather than a God. As punishment, he bewitches the women of the city into worshipping him and punishes King Pentheus for his lack of loyalty. This adaptation is centered around Pentheus' mother Agave, the former Queen of Thebes, and her free thinking aside from solely living to please the Gods.
This production will be presented at the 2023 Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, July 28th through August 6th at the Alliance Theater at Trolley Square. Tickets available Here!
